SAT questions? Highschool scores?

Hey,currently I'm a sophmore and want to take the PSAT and SAT. My mom says, that my score will count/the colleges I apply to will see it? But, some say that theres an option on the test to send to colleges/ or not send? Basically, I don't want colleges to see the score I receive as a sophmore.
